| I don't really have much to write about but felt like writing anyway. I am feeling a bit better than what I did in my last entry. When I last wrote, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but after unsubscribing from a couple of email lists I didn't really contribute much to things are easier to keep up with now.
Other than that, I am still job searching and have an appointment with my new blind services counselor tomorrow morning at ten so I am feeling rather hopeful about it. I am really going to push for the internship that's still open at the Chicago Lighthouse even if it's only for experience sake. I will keep everyone posted on how the meeting went and stuff.
Anyway, am feeling much better than in my last entry since email isn't so demanding anymore so that was a huge help. Hope everyone is doing good, and more soon.

| Hello! I am planning a trip up north from the bay area. I am going to do the route 1 and 101 freeway. Eureka, Coos Bay, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and some small towns are on my list.
But what I am wondering is the possiblity of driving all way to Anchorage, Alaska in my honda civic compact car? I really want to do this but I have been getting mixed suggestions about this. Mostly said I was crazy and I needed 4X4 vehicle.
I'm curious to what you guys think and I would appreciate your suggestions. And any tips on those towns and cities I just mentioned, as well!
I'm an artist, photographer, and avid nature hunter. I rather to poke strangest things than to shop in the malls. If I do shop, I enjoy thrifting.
Thanks! - Mood:determined

| Hey all,
I'm just starting adventures in C programming, and was wondering if there are any good and accessible and free compilers. I'm currently using Dev-C++, but jaws won't read the final product of the output.
I'm running an old version of jaws currently, 7.1, so I'm not sure if there's anything super accessible with that anymore. But I know this is the place to ask.
Thanks for any tips!

| Taking it easy today. 12 sealed tuning machines arrived so I can fix Ulrik's 12 string guitar he has had 40 years, but the old tuners are shot. Took ages to work out which ones could fit this guitar is it was a very very tight fit. Will get to that this week. Not looking forward to enlarging the holes so the bottom of the machines fit. Making a hole larger is never much fun. Luckily, perfection is not required as a bushing at the top does the actual alignment. Spent a goodly portion of the day arranging Orientis Partibus for Soprano Recorder, Lyre and Bumbass. Wonder if ANYONE has ever arranged to use those three together? That will be performed at ravenswar. I kept the bumbass line to two bass notes allowing a simple open string, pull string to bow approach for my daughter. The lyre is doing simpled chord harmony, mostly 4ths and 5ths with the odd 3rd, with G or A as the drone. It sounds fine in Midi, will see when we try play it together. Written using Noteworthy Composer. I've not been able to get into the shop as I still can not raise my right arm. Once I can do that I have on the list: Current work:- Fiddles, Mary Rose type; make and fit furniture.
- Rebec, rebuild the prototype rebec now I have a clue.
Repairs:- Fiddle, Alturnun type; either fit bridge OR refit as a basic cytol. Difference between cytol and fyddle is the brige and a bow. I think it would sound better as a cytol, try again for the alturnun later.
- Harp, king david 12 string. Remove broken neck and replace. (sounds so damn easy doesn't it?)
- Gusli, winged psalery prototype. Remove strings. replace tail post with better made one. I made tooo many holes on the prototype, deliberately, and this caused it to collapse eventually.
- Mess with the damn cornamusen again. I'm going to lick this tuning problem yet. When they work they are just so incredibly cool sounding.
Coming up!- I'm darn well going to make an Organistrum. Not a rare instrument, but incredibly cool and less than 20 exist today. Most set up as over grown hurdy gurdies for convienience rather than properly made, which makes the number of close as possible to period organistrums at less than 10 I can find a hint of. Too cool.
- A couple of gothic Harps, I do have the perfect wood for them already.
- Another stab at the Mary Rose tabor whistle.
- Finish assembly of three more swedish bagpipes. (waiting on the bags being made.)
- I'd rather like to take a stab at a 5 or 6 course Lute, medieval shape body rather than the renaissance style. (mad he is, barking mad I say!) I don't have enough room in my shop to work on it, so this time of year working out on the covered deck would be good.
- Soprano and alto crumhorns.
DOWN the road- Mary Rose tools. Okay, this is another project for me. I really like the wooden tools found on Mary Rose and want to reproduce them. Might be cool to do an A&S entry, or perhaps class, with tools from the ship and have used them to make as much as possible of one of the instruments from the ship. Back burner at the moment, but kinda neat.
- Symphonia; period type hurdy gurdy. I tried to make one as my third instrument and not a clue.. failed miserably and I WILL take a stab at it again. the problem was the tangents.
- Mother still wants me to make her a portative organ. OMG. And me still having trouble with whistles.
- Make a swedish pipe for ME, rather than just a reject prototype. I had done this actually, absolutely beautiful thing, but then my daughter took to it and being a daddy.....
What other nifty things should I look into making? Thoughts?:)

| I'm trying to replace the default images for entry privacy. The code I have puts the images in but the default image is right ontop of it. And, for some reason the images I'm putting in cut off in width.
Any help would be appreciated. - Location:18109

| I'm looking into programs in Ethnomusicology for the fall of 2010 - my Master's is in Theory and the only true Ethno class I ever had was my undergrad World Music class (which wasn't great), so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for reading, research, etc to look into before going into a program? | |
